Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is used the most in cancer treatment. Chemicals are used to fight fast-growing cancer cells. There is an unfortunate amount of risk with chemotherapy such as:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Hair loss
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue, body aches, fever
  • Pain or bleeding

Radiation

Radiation therapy uses x-rays to kill cancer cells within the location of the cancer. For example, if you have breast cancer, the x-rays are directed towards your chest. The side effects of radiation therapy depend on the location of the x-ray; however, typical side effects include:

  • Dry mouth, sore gums, and difficulty swallowing
  • Nausea
  • Hair loss

Surgery

Sometimes a doctor may involve surgical intervention to remove cancerous cells. Tumors are typically removed during this time. The goal is to remove a chunk of the cells before chemotherapy and radiation are prescribed. The side effects of surgical intervention coincide with other typical surgeries, such as:

  • Blood clots
  • Infections
  • Bleeding
  • Pain
